01

Developmental Editing

Strengthen the foundation of your book.

Developmental editing looks at your manuscript as a whole. Rather than concentrating primarily on grammar or individual sentences, this type of editing focuses on the bigger questions: how the book is structured, how well the material develops, and whether everything is working together the way it should.

I'll look closely at areas such as structure, organization, pacing, gaps, repetition, and sections that may need to be expanded, tightened, moved, or clarified. For fiction, that can also mean looking at character development, plot progression, scenes, and continuity. For nonfiction, it can include the order of ideas, strength of the argument, chapter development, and how clearly the material guides the reader.

The goal isn't to turn your manuscript into someone else's book. It's to help you see what's working, identify what may be holding the manuscript back, and give you clear direction for making the book stronger while keeping your intentions and voice at the center.

A Good Fit If

You want big-picture feedback on the structure, development, pacing, or organization of your manuscript and clear guidance on how to make the book stronger.

02

Line Editing

Make every sentence work harder without losing your voice.

Line editing focuses on how your writing reads at the sentence and paragraph level. I look closely at the language itself: where the prose flows naturally, where it becomes awkward or unclear, and where a sentence could communicate the same idea more effectively.

I'll refine areas such as sentence structure, word choice, rhythm, repetition, transitions, and unnecessary wording. That may mean tightening a sentence that is doing too much, smoothing a paragraph that feels uneven, or adjusting phrasing that distracts from what you're trying to say.

Line editing is not about rewriting your book in my style. Your voice, tone, and personality should still be there when the edit is finished. My job is to help the writing become clearer, smoother, and more effective while keeping it recognizably yours.

A Good Fit If

You want closer attention to the language itself, with a focus on clarity, flow, sentence structure, word choice, and readability while preserving your voice.

03

Copy Editing

Get the details right without flattening the writing.

Copy editing focuses on the finer details of your manuscript, making sure the writing is clear, consistent, and free from distracting errors. I work carefully through the text to catch issues with grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency while respecting the style and voice you've established.

I'll check syntax, usage, capitalization, word choice, and details such as numbers, dates, terminology, and formatting. I'll also keep an eye out for inconsistencies or small errors that can pull a reader out of the book, even when the writing itself is strong.

A copy edit should make the manuscript more polished without stripping away the choices that make your writing sound like you. I'll correct what needs correcting, flag anything that needs your attention, and preserve intentional style wherever it serves the book.

A Good Fit If

You want a careful edit that cleans up grammar, punctuation, spelling, consistency, and other details while keeping the style and voice of your manuscript intact.

04

Proofreading

Give your manuscript one final careful look.

Proofreading is a careful final check for a manuscript that's close to publication or ready to be shared with readers. The focus is on catching small errors and inconsistencies that can easily slip through and distract from otherwise polished writing.

I'll check for typos, spelling mistakes, punctuation slips, missing or repeated words, capitalization issues, and small inconsistencies in spacing or formatting. I'll also keep an eye out for details that are easy to miss when you've been working closely with the same manuscript for a long time.

Proofreading isn't meant for major rewriting or structural changes. It's a careful read designed to make sure your manuscript feels clean, consistent, and professionally presented when it reaches your readers.

A Good Fit If

Your manuscript is polished and close to publication, and you want a careful final check for small errors, inconsistencies, and presentation issues.
